Monday 22 December - Seasons Greetings
Kiaora, I’m Kerry Marshall, Mayor of Nelson.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday period. It’s a great time to rest, relax and reflect on our successes and challenges over the last 12 months.
It’s no surprise that the challenges for Nelson have been numerous but I think the successes and rewards have made it all worth while.
We had a good outcome with Natureland, progressed major projects at Saxton Field, the Trafalgar Centre and Trafalgar Park. We are embracing solar initiatives and the Central City Strategy, Heart of Nelson, is stunning.
Our emergency procedures have been tested by severe weather more often than we’d like, but we’ve all coped very well.
While the current economic climate is demanding, this Council will be working its hardest to minimise the impact on the city.
Thanks to all our hard working Councillors and Council staff, I look forward to keeping up the good work with you all in 2009.
Merry Christmas and happy new year to all Nelsonians and visitors to our region.
Monday 29 December - Monday 5 January 2009 - Summer in Nelson
Kiaora, I’m Kerry Marshall, Mayor of Nelson.
Locals and visitors alike, I hope you are enjoying Nelson in all its summer finery. This is a superb place to live all year round but it is particularly special in Summer. The town bustles with visitors and locals enjoying their time off.
Nelson City Council’s Summer Festival ensures there is something for everyone to experience.
The great music of Street beat, the outdoor movies, the ever popular teddy bears picnic and of course the flag ship event, Opera in the Park.
It’s also a great time to enjoy some of Nelson’s special places, a picnic and a swim up the Maitai River, a family trip to Tahunanui Beach, a visit to Broadgreen Historic House, the lovely Founders Heritage Park or our excellent Museum, located right in town on Trafalgar Street.
There’s so much to enjoy so I urge you to go out and make the most of summer in Nelson, you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! |
