Nelson is lucky to have a range of cycling opportunities throughout the region. You can road cycle as well as heading out of the city on a mountain bike for a variety of cycling adventures.

The rides in Bike Nelson are aimed at beginner to intermediate riders looking for recreational rides and are in two sections – urban rides and mountain bike rides.

Adult cycling courses

Nelson City and Tasman District Councils in conjunction with the Health Sponsorship Council are extending their popular adult cycling courses throughout the Nelson and Tasman region. Find out about adult cycling classes

Cycling Strategy

The Council adopted the Nelson City Cycling Strategy on 21 December 2006 after incorporating considerable feedback from the community. The Strategy represents another step towards the vision that cycling becomes a safe, convenient, and commonplace way of getting around Nelson.

Advance stop

Ongoing efforts to make Nelson more cycle-friendly have progressed with the installation of an "advanced stop box", at the intersection of Halifax and Trafalgar Streets.
